Well, consume very few: carbs, sugars, salt, saturated and reggular fats and lower calories. Stay hydrated with 5-8 glasses of water a day, eat proteins, but MOSTLY only seafood/beans/lentils etc. Lay off red meat.

Honestly, my favorite beneficial meal after a cardio/lifting work out is:

3 boiled eggs and drained tuna in a bowl mixed. perfect.

    or..

    beans/chili with tuna mixed.

okat firstly, you are kind of contradicting yourself here.
you want to lose weight. but gain muscle?
muscle weighs more than fat so you may actually be gaining weight and still be losing fat. do you get what i mean?

if you wanna lose weight real fast you have to eat right. you need all your nutrients that you can get but you want your intake of fats/carbs/sugar to be less than your output. therefore resulting in a loss of body fat.

one of the best ways to lose fat is cardio work. I suggest cycling. high intensity cycling will strip the fat off you like you wouldnt beleive. combining this with a weights programme will be even more beneficial.

you friend is ignorant of what protein drinks are really for. they arent necessary to build muscle. most people get enough protein from the diet to adequately build muscle. but if you feel its necessary a low carb protein shake could help you out.

if you really want to build muscle and do weights training atleast 4-5 times a week you can consider using creatine. it is a substance that increases the water retention in muscles and can greater increase your muscle bulk and strength.

goodluck. i hope my response is adequate.

    Cut Calories Wisely

It may be tempting to drastically cut your calorie intake when starting a healthy lifestyle. Instead, use a step method when cutting your calorie intake to minimize risk. Reducing calories too quickly results in your body rapidly burning all available calories, which will lower your metabolism. Furthermore, you are more likely to maintain your healthy lifestyle through this step method.
