I’m a 13 year old boy and i weigh nearly 190lbs. Ever since i broke my arm I have really gained weight.This is probably because I had to leave my martial arts background and sit on my couch all day long. 1. Get back into martial arts. I’m not sure what your style is like, but with mine, I’m dripping with sweat after the 90min session
2. Body weight train. You’re too young to go to the gym and use heavy bulky weights. It’ll stunt your growth and can have a negative impact on your bones. Do pushups, situps, chinups, squats, lunges etc. Any form of weight resistance training will help
3. Get moving. Get out and go for a 30min walk everyday, progress this to jogging for 5 min, walking for 25min alternating with 30 min walking each day. Finally get up to jogging/running 30 min. If you’re not a runner, try cycling, swimming, hiking etc. But best weightloss tool I own… a skipping rope! Hell, that toned me up something shocking in a month by skipping for 10 minutes every day!
4. To loose more fat, interval train. What I did with the skipping rope was to skip at a moderate pace for 1 minute, then flat out for 30 seconds and repeat as many times as I possibly could
5. Start dieting. Begin by cutting out all the soft drinks, confectionary and take away food you eat. Substitute this with fruit juices if you need a sugar hit. Drink 2L of water daily and to make it even better, add the juice of half to a full lemon. Eat a large healthy breakfast every morning like 2 eggs on whole meal toast, yoghurt with fruit and a green or lemon tea. There’s your protien, dairy, fruit and fibre plus an added detox just in the first meal of the day.
6. As for motivation, set yourself a goal. What do you want to achieve? Mine in martial arts is to get to nationals next year. So I’m training all for that which is in exactly a year and one months time. Set little goals and big goals. When you achieve one of them, really praise yourself and get yourself a reward. Or, get your parents to reward you – eg. loose 10lg, they take you out for something you enjoy whether it’s bowling, camping, fishing, footy etc. But make it something that is not food related and something you want. My ultimate goal gives me permission to purchase the martial arts weapons i’ve been wanting for 18 months now.
7. Write down every exercise you do from day one. Write what you did, how long you did it for, how you felt etc. Also include what you ate for the day. Include times so you can pin point the areas where you have your sugar cravings and can be prepared for it. If you want to write it down, but keep it private, type it on the computer and put a password on the document so no one else can read it, or create a blog. I use a blog and I find it great! Weight and measure yourself only once a week and at the same time each time – eg. every Sunday morning at 9am before breakfast.
