Obesity is an ever increasing problem, and so more and more people are trying to find ways to lose their excess weight. In this article, I look at how a personal trainer can help you use exercise to lose fat and get back in shape.

Usually when someone wants to lose weight, the first thing they do is find a diet to try. Unfortunately, diets can be difficult to follow, as they require a lot of commitment and self discipline, which is more than most people have. Certainly more then me – I don’t think I’ve ever been able to keep to a diet for more than a couple of months, as they always seem to involve giving up eating anything that’s actually tasty. Instead, I found a different way to lose weight, which works much better.

The best way I have found to lose weight, is to exercise. Get lots of exercise, all kinds, as often as possible, and it doesn’t matter what you eat. And exercise doesn’t just mean going to the gym – there are a lot of other options available, that don’t involve being stared at by lots of other people in better shape than you are.

The method I most recommend is hiring a personal trainer. Now, your first thought might be that this is going to be expensive, and that personal trainers are only for people with plenty of money to burn. This isn’t true. A lot of gyms now have personal trainers and fitness coaches attached to them, or who advertise locally, and don’t charge nearly as much as you might expect. These people are specially trained in teaching exercise, and will come to your house to show you how to do it right.

You may have already tried to find a personal trainer, perhaps even had your first session, only to discover that it’s not for you. Well, don’t worry about it. Personal trainers are people too – just because you had one bad experience, doesn’t men they are all like that, you just have to keep looking until you find a trainer who you can connect to and work with.

My personal trainer has been a great help. He keeps me focused, keeps pushing me forward, and thanks to his encouragement I’m doing better (and looking better) than I ever have before! He knows just how to motivate me to do my best, and together we’ve put together a detailed future plan of action, leading up to the final goals that I’ve always wanted to achieve but never thought I would be able to. As well as showing me the best ways to exercise, he’s actually made some very god suggestions about food, showing me a few foods to avoid, and a few that turned out to be unexpectedly tasty.

Hiring my personal trainer was, without a doubt, the best thing I have ever done – well worth the money. For anyone, absolutely anyone, who thinks they need to lose some weight, I woudl have no hesitation in recommending him to them. I don’t need to lose any more weight myself, but I’m still working hard, and still looking better and better every week.

The trainer has even stated that I am likely to actually gain weight in the future as certain muscles grow. I will not be fat though, I will be toned and a little but muscular. I look forward to the future and can also now for the first time in a number of years enjoy shopping for clothes.

You will normally find that for the first few weeks of a new diet program, you do lose weight, but then after that your weight loss starts to plateau, and you don’t lose any more. This is because most diet programs are designed to show quick, instant losses in the first few weeks, without any thought for the long term effects. Now, a cynical person might think this was just to keep the customer happy until the 30 day money back offer expired, but whether or not this is the case the fact remains that the ‘instant’ weight loss most often turns out to be, in reality, ‘temporary’ weight loss.

You will lose weight very quickly for the first few weeks but after that, you will suddenly discover that the scale is not going down anymore! You are not losing any more weight than what you have lost already. You have hit a situation commonly known as weight loss plateau. In such situations, the only remedy is a complete overhaul of your lifestyle habits.

You will hit a plateau once your body has adapted to your level of exercise and diet. So if you keep doing the same exercises, and eating the same foods, your body will get used to it, and you won’t lose any more weight. Once you get to this point, keeping to your diet won’t bring you any more benefit, but if you stop dieting you’ll start to gain the weight back! The only way to succeed, is to change your diet and exercise plan.

Here are two methods you need to follow to get out of the weight loss plateau.

1. Calorie-counting is not essential: If you keep your calorie intake too low, your body won’t have enough energy available, and it will slow down its metabolism to compensate. You need to make sure that you have enough calories coming in to keep your internal fires burning, as it were – if your metabolism is too low, you won’t be able to burn enough fat, and you won’t lose any weight. So a good diet should not just be about reducing the amount you eat. You also need to think about the kinds of foods you eat, as well as making sure that you get enough to maintain your metabolic rate – this is a lot more complicated than just counting calories!

2. Exercise: You can’t just diet – you need to exercise, as well, if you want to be really successful. If you’re only doing light exercise, or not exercising at all, then you are not doing everything you can to lose weight. Dieting alone is really not enough – it is equally important that you exercise, as well. This helps to keep your metabolic rate high, as well as burning fat directly.

Follow these two methods, and you’ll be amazed at how much more weight you can lose!

The biggest challenge most people face regarding weight loss, is just getting started in the first place. The longest journey starts with a single step, and if you don’t make that single step, you’ll never get anywhere. So that’s what this article is about – how to make that first step, and get started on your way to a perfect body.

The first step to successful weight loss is to set some goals. Goals should be used in the same way as milestones are used on highways. Just as without any milestone, you will have no idea of where you are going, without a goal, you will have no idea of how much work you need to do to shed all the extra pounds!

The first thing you need, is the answer to a few questions:

1. How much weight you want to lose?

2. By when you expect to lose all the weight?

Now write copies of these goals on pieces of paper, and stick them everywhere you can. The more places you put up reminders, the more frequently you will be reminded, and the more motivated you will be! I don’t know why, but just writing your goals down will dramatically increase their power – it’s pretty amazing.

Make sure you don’t forget to stick this paper on your refrigerator and kitchen, since it is in these places that the demon called temptation tries to ruin your weight loss efforts!

But just writing down the goals isn’t enough – you have to make sure they are realistic goals, with noticeable results – so that you can see (and if at all possible, measure) your results. If your goals aren’t realistic, they will just serve to discourage you instead of motivating you, and that defeats the whole purpose of having goals. You’ll end up disappointed and frustrated – so make sure that your goals are reasonable!

Ideally, no matter what you do, you would be able to lose no more than 1-2 pounds per week. So create your goals accordingly. If you want to lose sixty pounds, it will take you at least six-seven months to achieve the same!

Keep your goals small and achievable at first – that way whenever you achieve one of them, you’ll feel a boost of confidence, that will help you stay on track for your long term bigger goals. Yep, that’s it! The key to successful weight loss, is setting and keeping goals.

Most diet plans are based on ‘Low Fat’, ‘Low Calorie Intake’ and ‘Low Carbs’ which are too restrictive, leaving dieters unsatisfied and your body crying out for the energy it needs to operate properly. Alternatives, like ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’, allow you eat the foods you enjoy as long as you adhere to certain guidelines. But you have to take the good with the bad. The website states that ‘Low Fat’ diets do not work. Neither do ‘Low Calorie’ Diets or ‘Low Carb’ Plans. We have outlined the system’s pros and cons in this useful ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’ review.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots Review – The Good

Pro: You get to take days off.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots is a cyclical program. You stick to the program for 11 days, then return to your normal eating for 3 days. If you want to lose more body fat, you can repeat the cycle.

The diet plan is one of the few eating plans that permits small quantities of alcohol as part of your diet. Along with the 3-day break periods, this can keep your morale high without sabotaging your weight loss.

Pro: You can compose your own meal plan.

The cool facility that ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’ gives you is admission to an online meal generator. You can select your favorite foods from a list, and the program uses your foods of choice to make a personalized meal plan. The food choices are limited, though, so don’t expect lots of comfort foods.

The meal plan will doubtless start to bore you after a few weeks. Fortunately, there is an upgrade you can purchase which gives you access to a guide called ‘Beyond Calories’. This guide contains other food choices than the online generator.

Pro: There’s a vegetarian option.

Very few diet plans cater to vegetarians, but ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’ is one that does. You can create vegetarian meal plans to adopt. Most vegetarian diets are generally low in saturated fat, this is a heart-healthy bonus!

Fat Loss 4 Idiots Review – The ‘Not So Good’.

Con: It lacks scientific back-up.

There are no studies backing up the cyclical diet premise.

Con: It makes dubious claims.

The weight loss industry is full of dubious marketing claims, and ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’ is no exception. The product’s site claims that you will be able to lose 9 pounds ever 11 days by following the plan. If you lost that much weight in that period of time, a significant amount would be temporary water weight loss.

Con: Lacks structure and can be puzzling.

The initial product reads more like a set of loose guidelines than a structured diet plan.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots Review – To Conclude

The conclusion of our ‘Fat Loss 4 Idiots’ critique is this: It offers a fairly painless plan to help you shed a few pounds, but for serious fat loss, you will need a more involved system that encourages exercise and strength training as well as diet. It’s very hard to be ‘pro’ with this plan, when taking into consideration programs produced by the likes of ‘Weight Watchers’, since both have alternative techniques and advice. Also, ‘Weight Watchers’ is an established (tried and tested) concern, that encourages a more sensible and slower dieting plan, which must be far better for your health and well-being than trying to lose too much weight too quickly. Notwithstanding, neither will work without some exercise, and if running or cycling sounds a bit too energetic for you, then going for walks of 45-60 minutes on a regular basis (3 or 4 times per week) is a good way at helping with weight-loss.
